LIFESTYLE | Hello October

You have no idea how happy I am to see October finally arrive. Not only is October one of my favourite months, but it also signifies the start of so many fun events up ahead. Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas...and all the seasonal events in between.

There's a whole lot I'm looking forward to to this month but let's try and keep it varied and not just Halloween themed, shall we?

THE BOOK
I've never thought a whole lot of John Green's books before. I've liked them, but so far have been unable to understand all the fuss around them; although I can admit it's great to read books that really get inside of young people's minds. Still, I'm intrigued to read his newest novel, Turtles All the Way Down. It tells the story of sixteen-year-old Aza who pursues the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett. I'm not really sure I understand what it's actually about, but still, it's bound to be good and full of twists.
Turtles All the Way Down will be released on the 10th.

THE MOVIE
Though this one looks slightly corny and terribly over the top, there's just something about disaster movies, isn't there? I'm not sure what I like most about them - perhaps it's the dramatic rush I get throughout the movie knowing that everything happening on screen is entirely realistic (and probably due to happen soon what with global warming and all); which makes it just that bit scary. Anyway. I'm not entirely sure of the storyline of Geostorm but let's just say the world goes to sh*t (thanks to an experimental weather regulating system) and it's on resident hottie Gerald Butler to save the day.
Geostorm will be released on the 20th.

THE TV SHOW
OH MY GOD Stranger Things is finally coming back and I'm so damn excited. I can't quite explain what makes the show so awesome - like anyone needs convincing - but I just love the nostalgia of the 80s, plus the fact that it's genuinely scary. And I'm so excited that my boyfriend and I have booked the day off work to throw a viewing party for season two! We've offered an open invitation but even if it's just the two of us, I can't wait to slob around and just binge watch it all (much like I did with the first season, except I was single and sick at the time). Anyone have any ideas of themed (vegan!) food I can make?!
Strange Things returns on the 27th. But if you can wait, you should totally save it for a Halloween binge watch like us!

THE EVENT
I've no doubt there will be tons of Halloween events to pick from this year but as I have yet to sit down and research them - and put them in a whole other post - I'll share one I'm really looking forward to. The Howl Scream Park at Mead Open Farm is very local to me (in fact I used to go to the farm a lot as a kid), and, like a lot of farm's jumping on the Halloween trend, is destined to scare. The farm's thirteen nights of horror offer five haunted houses/attractions (Hotel de Basquervilles, Topper's Twister, House of Hounds, The Shed and Squealers Yard), plus street theatre. So don't think that you'll escape the scares just by avoiding the attractions!
The Howl Scream Park at Mead Open Farm is available on selected dates throughout October. Opening night is on the 7th.

ANYTHING ELSE?
I'm off glamping for the first time this weekend! I've been camping and I've stayed in hotels so it should be interesting to experience a mix between both. A bunch of us are heading up to Shropshire for a long weekend to celebrate my sister's 40th and I'm expecting good food, good company and some fun activities at the site. Plus each cabin has it's own hot tub so, y'know, there's that...
