FOOD | Red Thai Curry with Thai Taste

Since doing Veganuary, I've definitely come to enjoy cooking a lot more so when I was offered the chance to try few of Thai Taste's products, I of course jumped at the opportunity.

I was sent their Easy Thai Red Curry Kit, as well as Pad Thai Sauce and Rice Noodles.

I've tried Thai food maybe once or twice in the past (a long time ago), but have honestly wanted to try a Thai curry for a long, long time now and perhaps learn to cook one.

So I grabbed my products and headed over to my sister's house on Friday afternoon, who gushed about the products, claiming that they'd been a fan of their Thai meal kits for a long time now, as it makes cooking so easy.

I hadn't realized the rice noodles and curry kit generally don't go together (that I'm aware of), and that rice is easier to to do with the curry, so my sister suggested keeping the noodle kit to make a Thai stir fry next time - also, because I didn't have the ingredients for one with me. I thought that that sounded like a good idea and would see the products last longer, so instead got to work on the curry.

It was super easy to make, even for someone like me who doesn't really have many expertise in making curry. All the ingredients you need are there (except for the meat, or vegetables, if you're choosing to do a veggie/vegan one), and the majority of Thai Taste's products are actually vegan/veggie anyway.

By Friday, I had of course ended Veganuary so picked up some chicken to go in the curry. The instructions on the kit were all I needed and were super easy to follow and the meal was ready in around 10/15 minutes. It really was just a matter of adding each part of the kit bit by bit, and my only worry was when I first added the Thai curry paste, I was worried it was nowhere near enough to cover the chicken.

But I persevered and of course as I added the remainder of the coconut milk, the sauce thickened and easily covered the chicken.

I'm really surprised at how easy it is. On paper, a Thai curry sounds super complicated because you immediately think about all the spices or herbs you have to add. I find some 'kits' can be a bit misleading too and sometimes require you to add a lot more ingredients than just the meat, but this was pretty much four ingredients altogether (the meat, the coconut milk, the paste and some herbs - plus we bought some microwave rice to add to it).

It was so easy that I could easily do another one without reading the instructions.

And, of course, the curry itself was so delicious. It had a bit of a kick to it, but not too much which was good for me because I don't like spicy food. It was full of flavour too, but the flavours were subtle and not too overbearing. Overall, we thought it was fragrant, authentic and close to the real thing.

I was so impressed at the overall result that I've already decided I'm going to pick up a few of their other kits, as it's the ideal quick go-to dinner (or lunch in our case), which looks like you've put in a lot of effort when really it's so simple and easy to do.

Plus, it's affordable.

I was really pleased with this product and that's saying something - even though I am improving in my cooking, I do have mishaps and I can be quite wary of curries and new food sometimes as I don't like things too spicy.

But this really impressed me and I can't wait to pick up some more products and make another one.

  2. It does sound like this kit makes it relatively easy to make a curry. I would be generally intimidated to try to make a curry as they seem to be pretty complicated. It looks delicious as well!
