CONTRIBUTED POST | Job Hunting? Here's How To Learn More Skills To Pimp Your CV

Job hunting is almost a job in itself! Finding job adverts and then applying can end up taking a lot of your free time. However, it doesn’t have to be such a long-winded process. You just need to make sure you get the first job that you apply for! As long as you have all the required experience and qualifications listed in the job advert, the best way to bag the job is to show off your skills. Many employers look for extra skills that employees can bring to roles. Do you want to learn some new ones? Here’s how you can do just that!

You can’t complain that you don’t have the time to learn any new skills along your current job. Sure you do! Especially if you enrol at your local night school. There are many night schools up and down the country that offer courses on a wide range of subjects. At the end of the course, you will earn a certificate to prove that you completed it. Some night schools even offer qualifications to adult learners, so you can take any GCSEs of A Levels that you might have missed at school.

If you need a more flexible course than the ones offered at night school, take a look online. There are now a lot of organisations offering online courses in a variety of business and IT skills. For an example of what is on offer, you can check out the website for Training Connection. Are you interested in taking an arts-based course? Then you should check out university websites. More and more unis are starting to offer free online courses. Some of these only last for a month or two, so you don’t have to worry about spending a long time completing these courses.

There are also a number of apps that can help you learn cool new skills. It’s amazing what you can do with your phone now, right?! If you have always wanted to learn a second language, then download Duolingo immediately! This fun app helps you learn languages. It is very addictive and surprisingly very effective. But that’s not the best part – it is absolutely free! If you want to brush up on your maths or science skills, download Khan Academy. It’s another great learning tool that is free!

This may be one of the oldest methods for learning new stuff. But there are still plenty of reasons why you should learn your skills through reading. Firstly, it is one of the most effective ways to absorb information. But you should make sure that you are reading proactively. The best way to do this is to take down notes as you go. It’s also a good idea to underline key words and phrases if you plan on returning to a particular section again.

Hopefully, all these new skills will help you bag your dream job! Good luck on the job hunt!
