FOODIE REVIEW | The Breakfast Club

If you live in London, chances are you've already heard of The Breakfast Club. It's uber popular for scene kids, and is also well known for it's amazing hangover food - I've heard that often on a morning (especially at weekends), there are hour waits and long lines just to get in and get one of their breakfasts.

Of course, The Breakfast Club's most staple dish is going to be a breakfast one, but they also serve burgers, sandwiches, brunch and even a late, late breakfast.

Since I'd been writing about pancake week at work and had spent days drooling over the photos I'd been sent, when I popped down to London for work last week, I knew I just had to make a pit stop at The Breakfast Club. I thought it was right up my street - quirky, popular through word of mouth and effortlessly 'in'.

So myself and a friend booked a table and grabbed a quick bite to eat there before moving on. We actually went into the Soho branch, which was their first ever cafe opened. I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleased when I arrived.

It's a small nook of a place - blink and you'll almost miss it, if it wasn't for the bright yellow logo above their door. Inside it's just as small - but welcoming. It's very random and knick-knacky (if that's a word) with mismatched chairs and creaky tables - but it's all part of the charm.

To be honest, I felt more like I was in the dining room of a friends house as opposed to a popular restaurant - but that's a good thing! London is ever so popular for it's pop up bars that aim to achieve this atmosphere and The Breakfast Club - though not a pop up - did just that.

Unfortunately, we had little time so only opted for something quick. For me, it had to be the pancakes, bacon and syrup of course since I'd been writing about pancakes all week!

I'm not a lover of pancakes and to say I was wary was definitely an understatement. I think pancakes look delicious, but I'm definitely not a big fan of your typical English pancake. And I find most American food looks amazing but doesn't taste how you'd expect (like bagels for example), so I really didn't know if I'd like it or not.

But it was bloody delicious.

The pancakes were fluffy, the bacon was crispy and the syrup gave the whole thing a really sweet feel - it's something I didn't expect to work but it did, very well.

I'm not very good at describing food so let's just say it was damn delicious, shall we?

The staff were lovely too and made sure I was content with a drink whilst waiting for my friend to arrive. We didn't have to wait too long to be served and although the restaurant was small, it gave the whole place the most lovely atmosphere. I felt like I could just lean back on my chair and start a conversation with anyone I pleased.

All in all I enjoyed my visit to The Breakfast Club, no matter how 'hip' and random it may be - and I'll definitely be returning.

  1. Sounds like a great place, but there's no way I would queue for an hour to get breakfast! :)
