MOVIE CHALLENGE | May the Force be with me...

Earlier today (well, when I wrote this post anyway, which was, er, boxing day, so a long time ago now...), I slid into my gallery seat (I would thoroughly recommend choosing gallery seats if you're ever at an IMAX. Free soft drinks, nachos and popcorn? It's well worth the extra five pound or so) and braced myself for one of the biggest films of not only 2015 but perhaps the century overall.

Yes, I finally got around to watching Star Wars.

Let's set the scene a little here.

I quite like a sci-fi movie, enough to call myself a geek and be proud of it. I grew up watching Star Trek but kind of hated it until the movies with Chris Pine were released, and I adore anything that J.J. Abrams marks his stamp on.

But Star Wars?

I wasn't a fan. I fully appreciated the fuss around it all and had watched bits and bobs from the movies throughout the years, maybe having watched just one full one from start to end. At the back of my mind, I'd always wanted to sit down and watch them all in one go but had never gotten around to it.

So although I was really happy to see the new Star Wars, I cant say I was as psyched as I could have been. But when the opening scene started, with that iconic music and the text rolling on the screen, I couldn't help but feel both excited and appreciative.

I definitely felt swept up in the atmosphere of being able to see this huge block buster movie, a film that people once thought wouldn't carry on for any more movies. I mean, the first Star Wars was released in 1977, way before my time, and I never really ever thought another one would be released in my lifetime, if at ever at all.

I'm not really sure why I thought that, considering they'd have to do another movie in my lifetime if they wanted the original cast.

But I digress.

Anyway. I really felt the excitement and I loved - still love, really - that people were so pumped up - it's so cool! And even though I was never a fan, I was totally pumped up too.

As it turns out, for my first ever full showing of ANY Star Wars film, I was blown away. It was way better then I expected (I don't know what I expected really). It was witty, intriguing and drew me in.

Plus, it stars Harrison Ford.

Enough said.

By the end of the film I was a converted fan and swore to myself that it was about time I sat down and watched them all.

I won't have time to do it all in one go obviously, but much like my B-List Horror Movies Challenge, if I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna need a lot of snacks and whilst I'm at it, I might as well blog about it too.

And why do I think it will be fun? Well, much like that famous quote about a zombie apocalypse, there are two types of people in this world. People who have seen Star Wars and people who haven't.

For the most part, im the latter. I know little to nothing about the films (so my notes should be at least amusing) but I'm also a total film geek, so you'll also read about me appreciating the films.

And plus it helps me. When I watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens again when it's out on DVD, I'll understand it more and won't need to pester my brother or dad by constantly asking 'who's that' every two minutes.

Win win.

So here's my second challenge of the year - to watch all of the Star Wars franchise and let you all know how I get on - whether that's a blog post after every movie or an eventual post summing up my experience of the movies overall.

Wish me luck, and may the force be with me..!

Oh, and obviously, if you haven't yet already, go and watch this damn awesome movie. Whether you're a fan or not.

    1. I think you will! It's very modern and a total blockbuster film, meaning you'll enjoy it whether or not you're a fan of the franchise x

  2. I can't believe you hadn't seen the originals before the Force Awakens. I made a big effort to watch them all before, it is great isn't it?! x

    1. I can't either! They were always on in the background when I was growing up but I never sat down and watched them properly. I do wish I'd found the time to watch them all beforehand but don't feel like I missed out on too much by not doing so x

  3. Not a huge fan of the film but my hubby just loves them and he is trying to get our son into them.

    1. That's really sweet! I think it's a rather divided opinion, some people love the franchise whereas others don't really understand what all the fuss is about x

  4. I tried so hard to watch the first one but fell asleep in it, and haven't braved watching any others. I think I need to start with one of th newer ones to get into it before watching the REALLY old films that just aren't as amazing as they would have been when they originally came out.

    1. Yeah I know what you mean exactly, at the time they were huge but now, although they're considered as cult classics, they're quite dated. Then again you'll probably notice this more by going from say the newest one to one of the first ones, it might be better to build them up in order x

    1. I think it definitely is, especially for a special occasion or for a big film like this where you need to go all out and see it on a big, big screen. Plus the free nachos and popcorn don't hurt either! x

    1. Such a good idea! I hope so too, I think I will, I never had an interest when I was younger but I feel the new one has converted me as a fan now x

  10. Nope. Still utterly refuse to watch this movie! I'm a huge Star Wars fan but of the classics. My love of the classics stops me from watching this one.

    1. Really? I'd love to hear why! Of course it's very different and modernized compared to the original ones but it's still the same director, cast and story etc - surely you'd love to know where the story goes now?

Mind you, I remember how excited everyone was when the new Indiana Jones came out then how disappointed they were once they saw it. Personally, I loved it, but many people were divided x

    1. You should really make the effort to see it before it does, but still, I'm sure it'll be just as great on DVD :) x
