Buying gifts at Christmas can be hard enough when you're buying for secret santas people who are just impossible to buy for. But sometimes it helps to do something really simple - like sitting down and listing what peoples actual interests are. You'll find most people tend to fit into some of the different things in this post, whether they're a fashionista or a home décor dreamer! Luckily, if you still don't know what to buy for these people, we've got you sorted...
THE FOODIE It can be hard to know what to get a great baker or restaurant fan; they know all about good food so you don’t want to disappoint them. Fear not! Special food treats will win their heart (or their belly). Patisseries are abundant now and they often do seasonal gifts, like Christmas biscuits, so head to your local store or shop online to get some. Team it with a cook book from their favourite chef, like Nigella’s new book – ‘Simply Nigella: Feel Good Food’.
Think like a Great British Bake Off contestant and ensure the present decoration/wrapping is creative and beautiful – it’ll be sure to impress. Choose beautiful wrapping paper and with ribbon, tie a wooden stirring spoon in the centre of the bow. The extra touch will not go unnoticed!
THE FASHIONISTA This can be one of the trickiest types to buy for…what colour? What shape? Sparkles? No sparkles? So many things to consider! Stop pulling out your hair, we have the answer. Cue drum roll and catwalk: a black flapper dress. You can’t go wrong with black (it’s always in fashion after all) and flapper dresses are huge this season. They’re also really flattering so they will suit her whatever gorgeous shape she rocks.
Make the wrapping as glamorous as the gift to really amp up her excitement. And for that extra something, tie some little treats on to the gift with the ribbon. Cosmetics mirrors nail varnish and bracelets work well.
A TRAVELLER AT HEART This can be a difficult one if you’re more of a home bird yourself. No need to run yourself in to the ground with worry though! A stylish yet practical travel bag will be the perfect gift. The traveller will wear through bags like nobody’s business so you’ll definitely be in their good books with this gift.
For the finishing touches, wrap it in a map. Tie it with a green or blue ribbon and use a passport case as the name tag (name tag and extra gift all in one). Tuck a sleep mask under the ribbon and you’re done: the perfect travel gift.
HOME DÉCOR DREAMER Hmmm, what to get the lady that lusts over luxury interiors?! Easy, , lemon-scented candle ! Go for something seasonal to ensure there’s plenty of products to choose from. Shades of Grey is a key A/W trend this year (and no, we aren’t talking about the film), and what with the cold weather, help your friend keep toasty with a sumptuous bed throw.
As a little stocking filler to go on top, add a cute candle with a lovely scent. It will go perfectly with the theme. Wrap both gifts in festive colours and tie a few little Christmas baubles on to it with the ribbon. And there you go: a gift fit for Martha Stewart!
What do you think? Up until now, I never even thought home décor dreamer was a personality trait and now I can't stop thinking about all the people I know that fall into this category! What about you? Will you be buying anyone a gift mentioned in this post? Let me know with a comment!
