Sorry girls but I'll be taking a break for a while (again, I know) as I have just found out some upsetting but personal news. I'll hopefully be back sooner rather then later though!

Week of 18th - 24th July 2011

Rainbow Cake!
Mmmm yummy! If you follow me on twitter then you'll know the week before last I was declaring myself a domestic goddess for making a rainbow birthday cake. Thing is, my mum helped, and we didn't have many colours so it wasn't really a rainbow cake. Nonetheless, this was the end result! It was very yummy and I got loads of compliments about it.

Winner!
I won this gorgeous Soap & Glory set from Rachel Marie as part of a giveaway. I'm so pleased, I never win anything and I adore everything Soap & Glory! So thank you so much Rachel!

Graduate!
As you are aware, I recently graduated from uni! This is me on the day, looking very proud!

This is me and my family, who all drove 6 hours to see me graduate and celebrate with me! It was such a lovely day! The only person missing from this picture is the ex who also celebrated with me, but there is a group photo with him in as well somewhere!

Finally, this is me and my sister (looking a bit shiny faced) drinking cocktails. We all went out for a really nice dinner afterwards and had some drinks. It was such a laugh and the cocktails were so yummy!

Sunday, 17 July 2011

I'd just like to do a quick post on this because I am absolutely ecstatic that as of yesterday, I have now graduated! It's been a long, tough three years and I think my degree was touch and go for a while but I still got to graduate yesterday and it was an amazing feeling!

If any of my friends or family are reading this, I just want to give a big thank you to all of you that have supported me over the past three years!

Me and my brother! I'm clearly too cool to wear the hat properly!

I've decided to put together a few tips for anyone who is starting/thinking about going to/studying at uni - mostly tips I wish I'd knew over the years!
  • Don't get into a relationship before starting uni. If you've been with your bloke for a long time and you are in a stable relationship then ignore this! But there's really no point trying to be serious with anyone when you start uni - you will want to have fun at freshers. I don't mean that in any specific way, but yes you may want a couple of cheeky snogs or hook ups and you certainly don't want to worry about putting time aside for your boyfriend when its freshers and you're going out meeting new people, really having no worries. If you do have a boyfriend though, do consider his feelings - if you've moved away and you're out getting drunk and clubbing and meeting new people every night then it's no surprise he's going to worry a bit. So if you are in a relationship, try and see things from his point of view, reassure him that you're relationship is stable and maybe agree to always have one or two nights a week to skype with each other or something. It's not worth having boyfriend worries when it comes to your second year because you'll have enough stress as it is!
  • Really put yourself out there. After uni a lot will change so essentially this will be one of your last chances to have a bit of fun. Do go out all night on the cheapest, busiest night of the week - even if you have a 9am lecture the next day. The following week just put your uni priorities first. What I mean is try to have a good balance - but take chances too. You don't want to look back and regret not getting a good grade because you didn't buckle down - but at the same time you don't want to look back and regret not having as much fun when you were still at that age.
  • Be safe! This one is self explanatory but be as safe as you can. Never get taxis alone (especially when drunk), always keep a spare tenner in your shoe/bra aka away from your other money so if you spend it all on drink you've got that last bit of cash to get home etc. Also, register with a doctor and dentist immediately and look around to see what the uni has to offer. My uni did free condoms (lol!) and they also had a scheme with the local taxi rank - if you couldn't afford to pay your fare then you gave the taximan your student card and simply paid the taxi fare within the uni to have your card returned to you! Also, don't listen to what other people think! If you are single, there's nothing wrong with having fun, as long as you are safe and you are not hurting anyone/cheating in the first place!
  • When it comes to living arrangements ALWAYS make a rota and lay out some ground rules. It sounds boring - but get it done ASAP and you can always do it whilst pre-drinking or whatever. I never did with my two flatmates and at the end of the year everything escalated into massive arguments. By the end of the second year they were bullying me and by the third year we weren't even talking. So a simple thing by not setting out ground rules (i.e who takes out rubbish on what day, even things like checking to see who has early starts and when or who has to revise for exams so you know not to come in late being loud and such) can lead to something as serious as bullying which will most definitely effect your work.
  • Money save all the time. Moneysavingexpert.com is useful, as is using cashback websites. Don't forget if you're running low on supplies, mum will always be happy to post up/bring up some resources! And look around too, you can get a travelcard which is useful if you travel back home by train, and loads of shops offer student discount.
  • Finally, have fun. It will be hard and it will get on top of you (which is usually about the time you ring mum!) but it will also be one of the best times of your life. Keep your head down, but also go out and party. Celebrate big, or drown your sorrows big too if you fail an exam. Hook up (safely), make lots of friends, and take lots and lots of photographs!

Giant Giraffe
My parents took me antiquing...not really. But we did go to an antique place filled with adorable chic furniture and vintage clothes. I almost bought a birdcage (the white chic kind!). I saw this massive giraffe there and thought it was funky.

Fly Girl
I bought these awesome vintage glasses (which are probably from New Look or whatever but have the vintage look). I'm really bad with sunglasses, I think when I was in highschool like three years in a row I'd nick my Dad's and forget they were in my bag before sitting on them and breaking them. I'm really giggling at the fact that my Dad walked around the corner as I took this photo and that if you look closely you can see him in the background. He looks like a ghost caught on camera haha!

Saturday Night Takeaway
Getting a curry from the local is our Saturday night tradition in the Joy household. Sooo yummy!

Hell :(
Although I'm home atm, next weekend I'm moving back properly. So in the week I'm going back up North for the ex's birthday, to pack and to graduate, then coming home at the weekend. There's so much to sort through so I started doing my room this weekend to make space. I'm really sad at leaving when I think about it and it makes me upset to think I'll never see my ex again. We haven't been broken up long and when we were still together I was either going to stay up North or he was going to move down here. Now that we've broken up, I have little reason to visit the North East and until I get a job I can't afford it anyway. It's going to be a weird situation saying goodbye knowing that will be it.

Empty Wardrobe
This is the end result of my sort out (bear in mind at the other end of my wardrobe I have stored coats, hoodies and day dresses). Not much at all!

Only a little bit of scouting for emo boys! Today I'm just lounging around the house, feebly job searching online. I really love this jumper so I wore this outfit a couple of days ago when popping into TK Maxx and B&M with my Mum, and we all know that it's a well known fact that these type of stores only employ hot men. So I was sort of perving on emo boys at the time.

I can't believe I've actually had the guts to put this up! This is what I wear on a day to day basis when I'm lounging around the house - it's not a pretty sight! Have you ever looked at other girls blogs where they post photos of them constantly looking glam? Have you ever wondered how they do it everyday? I have! Well, this is me with minimal makeup, little sleep and no effort haha!

I adore this oversized jumper, I actually bought it in a few sizes too big so it was baggy on me so it's perfect for a day like this. My hair looks horrible! Unfortunately for me, I cannot do my hair nice, and even when I pull it up into a messy ponytail it never looks like the nice messy kind!

I must also note that I hate wearing my hair up anyway, I never go out in public like this, even so that when I went to TK Maxx I still refused to put it up despite the fact that it needed washing!

I didn't bother with any accessories either, except for some little flower/rose stud earrings and a hairband that had a leopard bow on. I've hardly done my eyebrows here too, I can thank my dad for having fair eyebrows! And my nails are, shock horror, still a very chipped version of last times LOTW (see here). I'm clearly a terrible excuse for a girl, leaving my nails to get this chipped, not making much effort today haha! I'd die if today was the day Shia Labeouf came to my house (my motto is normally you never know who you might bump into so always try and look your best)!

So yeah, in conclusion, this is me not at my nicest but I suppose it's refreshing to see! I'm also wearing most makeup I wear anyway but it doesn't seem to have made much difference today!

High Waist Denim Shorts, £19.99 New Look

Get those legs out now that its summer! These high waist shorts ooze sophistication and can be both vintage and contemporary. Best worn with wedges, or with shoes like the ones above, these shorts will make it look like your legs go on forever! Try being bold and teaming them with a lace leotard and even higher heels for a night out. High waist shorts are the perfect wardrobe essential to go from day to night in no time.

Kirsty Two Pocket Jersey Cardigan, £5.00, Boohoo.com

This adorable cardigan is the perfect pick for brightening up or adding colour into any outfit. With such a lovely shade for summer, this cardigan would look gorgeous over a plain white dress or outfit. And at £5.00, its a real bargain! It's also available in red too.

Porsha Ruffle Hanky Hem Tunic, £15.00, Boohoo.com

I love this! This girly waterfall top is so cute and light that it can be worn for just about anything. This is the type of top that I'd wear casually on a day to day basis with skinny fit jeans and pumps. I'd probably team a long cardigan with it too. Soft blue nails would match this top, with lots of oversized rings too!

Sleeveless Studded Blouse Top in Coral, £14.99, Funkydivaa.com

I've really been digging (haha retro) these types of tops lately. They're so effortlessly smart and bang on trend with the peter pan collar, but can also be worn casually. Lately I've also been seeing them with studs in like this one, and I really, really love this twist. It really glams up the top and gives it a bit of an edge. This means that before where it could be worn casual or smart, it can also be worn for a more glam event too. With the top being fairly long, it can also be tucked into a bodycon skirt or jeans. This top is also available in black or royal blue.

Floral Print Drape Chiffon Playsuit, £18.99, Funkydivaa.com

I'm not a massive fan of playsuits as I don't feel they are quite feminine, but this one outshines most I have seen. The floral print detail really gives it a girly look, as does the shape. This is a playsuit that should definitely be worn with a belt to show off a person's shape better. This one is really cute as its versatile so can be worn with a number of different things. Hot pink wedges would give this outfit real 'oomph'!

By our guest blogger Laura Lowe

So now we have our venue and our church and our date, the real work begins. How on earth do you go about deciding which of the million tasks you have to do is a priority? Even the wedding bible seems to go into spasms just contemplating it!

After many cups of tea, the next thing we decided to tackle was the outfits for our bridal and groom parties. There are 7 people, plus us, who we need to clothe, so it seemed like a mammoth task. Luckily, I had kept the information from the various wedding fayres we had been to, including the huge one at the NEC in Birmingham, so we spent a weekend visiting and ringing up the various places for quotes and to have a look round, starting with the men’s.

I was shocked at how expensive these places were, I know weddings are a big business, but this really was catastrophic to a small-town girl. We tried some of the big names, Peter Posh and Moss Bros to name a couple, who all quoted about 60 quid per suit (including the waistcoat and cravate) with the groom being free. If you’re good at maths, you’ll realise this totals the cost of a holiday to Europe. Rob, not usually a fan of being centre of attention, seemed especially excited, and it dawned on me that for the groom, this is the equivalent of my wedding dress. After choosing from an extraordinary range of suites, styles, cuts and colours, he decided on the Prince Edward suit with a waistcoat to later be decided depending on the colour of the bridesmaid dresses.

After much deliberation, we also decided that we simply could not afford to clothe the groomsmen in hired suits, so they will wear their own black jacket and trousers, and we will hire the waistcoats and cravate’s for them.

I wasn’t expecting choosing a suit would take a good month of our time, but we are happy with the company we chose – a small shop in Shropshire who have a good reputation and extremely flexible about fittings / dates / decisions etc, and Rob is pleased he is sorted.

I have a feeling the bridesmaid dresses will be much more of a challenge...!

Week of 27th June - 3rd July 2011

Bump Its!
Okay so my hair is greasy here, and I only did it quickly but I tried out some of those bump its but a cheap version from the pound store. I think it came out pretty well, though I look like a bit of an alien!

Wreck This Journal
I finally started my 'Wreck This Journal'! I love it! Though I didn't have a proper full set of pens here so its not as colourful as I'd have liked it to have been. Nevermind, I'm just glad I've made a start.

Kinder Joy!
My mum bought me this back from France (Joy is our family name). It's a French kinder egg except inside it was a bit different and the toy wasn't very good.

I haven't been up to much this week I'm afraid!

I'm a massive film buff and I often find that at 3am, when I'm browsing the internet unable to sleep, I end up on Youtube checking out the latest film trailers or upcoming films. There are loads that I'm looking forward to lately, and I think you readers will fancy seeing them too! Here's a pick of some of the best ones I can't wait to see.

Release date : 30th September 2011

This light hearted romcom starring Anna Faris and the lush Chris Evans is about Ally's (Anna Faris) plan to never sleep with another man again until she's sure he is the one. Not wanting to go over the predicted number of how many men a women should sleep with before they meet their future husband, Ally begins to look up all of her ex's with the hope of finding the love of her life. Teamed with womaniser Colin (Chris Evans) her mission to find a date for her sister's wedding reveals a lot of laughs as she realises her ex's have just gotten better since they were together!

Anna Faris is hilarious and it's refreshing to see her finally getting away from that 'ditzy blonde' role she has previously been stereotyped in. The gorgeous Chris Evans offers eye candy through out the film, and  I think I fell in love when I saw him playing the guitar in the trailer. Chris Evans with a guitar? Yummy! This film also features the very funny Andy Samberg of comedy group The Lonely Island (who's hits include 'Jizz in My Pants' and 'Like a Boss')!

This film may be your typical searching for love romcom (lets face it, we all know who Ally is going to end up with!) but its brimming with eye candy and I think it's going to be a really funny feel good film.
Check out the trailer below!

Release Date : 10th February 2012

The vow is a romantic drama starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. Need I say more? If it's a drama and it stars Rachel McAdams, you just know it's going to be good!

Paige (McAdams) and Leo (Tatum) are a deeply in love newly wed couple. However, when they are involved in a terrible car accident, Paige wakes up unable to remember her identity - and her marriage. Leo must help her remember who she is and vows to make his wife fall in love with him all over again.

This is definitely going to be a tear jerker!

Release Date : 29th July 2011

Featuring an all star cast, this adult romance drama tells the story of what love means to a variety of different characters. When Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) finds out his wife (Julianne Moore) has cheated on him, its a shock to the system. Having not dated in years, soon his evenings are filled with him sulking at a local bar, until he meets womanizing player Jacob (Ryan Gosling). Jacob teaches Cal how to get women, whilst taking on the role of wingman. Cal cannot change how he feels about his wife however, despite a life makeover. Jacob finds his game plan changing as he falls in love with Hannah (Emma Stone), who refuses his charms but takes a chance on him anyway.

I really can't wait for this movie, with another small storyline based around Cal's son having a crush on his older babysitter, there really is something for everyone. This film has everything ; romance, comedy, drama and again, eye candy! I have to admit, I never understood the obsession with Ryan Gosling until this movie (and, erm, his six pack from the trailer). I suppose this just goes to prove that nobody can resist the bad boy role!

It looks like a really great movie and with such a talented cast, you can't say no to this film.

Release Date : 5th August 2011

Yes, it's been done a million times before, and yes, there surely aren't going to be many surprises. But lets face it, the storyline still looks good and it stars Ryan Reynolds so any bets it's going to be a darn right funny film.

Jason Bateman plays Dave, a family man who's life is spent looking after his kids. Ryan Reynolds plays Mitch, who seems to be living the single life to the full, having a different girl every night. One night, when peeing in a (magic?) fountain, they exclaim they would love each others life. Bam. The next morning, they wake up as each other.

This film is from the director of Wedding Crashers, and the writers of The Hangover and with the comedian genius that is Ryan Reynolds, it's going to be hilarious. Definitely one to watch with your boyfriend for brownie points.

Release Date : 17th August 2011

Yes, it's the type of film your Dad would want to see. In fact, why don't you go with your parents? When was the last time you went to the cinema with your parents (I go all the time, it saves missing out on something I want to see because I'm single, and they usually pay for my ticket :) )? Anyway, back to the film...this sci-fi action packed movie stars Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.

Set in 1873 in Arizona, it tells the story of cowboy Jake (played by Daniel Craig. Btw? He looks yummy as a cowboy!) who has no memory of his past when he wakes up in the dessert. He's also sporting a weird device on his wrist. He enters a town called Absolution which is run by Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) and we soon find out that Jake is a wanted man. When aliens attack, however, they must work together to make a stand.

It is based on the 2006 graphic novel/comic of the same name created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. The trailer looks really good, it looks like its going to be filled with action and genuinely has a straight to the point simple but powerful storyline (which is rare in films these days).

Plus if Daniel Craig as a cowboy doesn't do it for you then there's always Harrison Ford if you like older men (and who didn't fancy him in the early Indiana Jones days?!).

So there you have it, here is a list of some of the best upcoming movies that I think you will all love. I am considering of making this a monthly feature where I talk about/announce some of the best films due out that month. Let me know what you guys think!

(Please note I have used the UK release dates, this will obviously be different for other countries!)

Friday, 1 July 2011

I've not long been back from the cinema where I saw Transformers : Dark Of The Moon and here's what I thought!

If you don't know the storyline, its all about this covered up secret from when a transformer crashed on the moon, but of course this was covered up to the public. It's later revealed that this transformer had the key to stopping the war on Cybertron - the Pillars. The Autobots find the Pillars with means to protect them but the Decepticons want the Pillars for evil - of course. So begins a war, with the humans all in the middle.

This eagerly awaited sequel (which is also actually the last film in the series) was excellent! It was jam packed with heart stopping action (there was more action in this film then the last two) and also had some really good comedy and romance moments. Shia Labeouf, who plays the main character Sam Witwicky, stated that this film offered what the last film lacked - heart. The storyline was easy to follow, and there are some really amazing special effects that make you gasp out loud.

In terms of Rosie Hunginton-Whiteley taking over Megan Fox as Sam's love interest - I wasn't too keen on her. It was whispered that one of the reasons that Megan Fox quit the series was because she didn't like the way she was portrayed as a woman in the films, the way she came across more as eye candy than an actress. I didn't think it was a good idea to use an underwear model to replace her, who hasn't acted before in her life. Rosie's acting wasn't terrible, I just personally don't believe there was much chemistry between her and Shia in their roles, especially compared to the chemistry displayed between Shia and Megan. However, Shia has recently kind of admitted that he and Megan hooked up when filming the first two films, so maybe this is why!

I don't think it felt right without Megan Fox, the storyline behind why Sam now had a new girlfriend was only touched upon briefly. And considering that the first film was all about winning her as a girlfriend and getting her to like him, and the second being about how their relationship has been through a lot, it felt a bit silly that it was brushed off so easily.

Shia Labeouf was excellent. And I'm not just saying that because I fancy him. A lot of people have been giving him a hard time on his acting lately because of the bad reviews that the last Indiana Jones film received (which also starred Shia). But in this film, Shia was really good, his acting was great and his character is really heart warming. Shia really portrayed some raw emotion in this film as an actor and that's one of the reasons I think this film worked so well.

I thought the film had much more comedy than the last two which was good because it meant there was something for everyone. The one thing I didn't like is that Sam's parents didn't appear much in this film as they are especially funny! Women will definitely like this film and despite being an action film I don't think it's a film just for men. I have loved the whole Transformers series from start to finish and would eventually love to see another one years and years for now but in the meantime I think they have gone as far as they can with this story. The storyline for this final film was really good though and I would recommend this to everyone!

In terms of 3D - I didn't actually see it in 3D as the 3D showing was full and I had heard that it wasn't very good in 3D. Similarly, when I returned home, I was told a lot of people have said it is good in 3D so I can't really comment. But, it was very action packed and really good in 2D!

Finally, in terms of hot totty, Shia LaBeouf looks sexy as always and there are scenes with him in a suit in the film. Josh Duhamel was also pretty to look at and this film also newly starred Patrick Dempsey too!

I give this film 4.5 stars out of 5! I missed off that last .5 just because of the character change!
